How to add dynamic QR codes to WordPress (with our official plugin)

· 2 min read

As of today it's live in the official WordPress directory: Dynamic QR Codes by QR Top, our free plugin for generating QR codes for any post or page without leaving the editor.

The problem it solves

If you've ever put a QR to your site on a flyer, you know how it ends: you reorganize the blog, the permalink changes, and the printed QR points at a 404. The plugin attacks exactly that — honestly offering you both options:

  • Static QR (no account): generated locally with the current permalink. Free and instant, but with the usual limitations — if the URL changes, printed copies die, and nothing gets measured. The full difference, here.
  • Dynamic QR (with a QR Top account — the free one works): the QR encodes your short link, so if the permalink changes, the plugin syncs it and printed copies keep working. And every scan is measured: country, device, and time in your dashboard.

One-minute install

  1. Plugins → Add New → search "Dynamic QR Codes by QR Top" → Install and Activate.
  2. For dynamic QRs: create your free account (5 QRs forever, no card), generate an API key under Settings → API, and paste it in QR Top → Settings in your WordPress.

What you get

  • One QR per post or page, from the editor meta box, rendered with the design (colors, logo) saved in your account.
  • [qrtop] shortcode to insert the QR anywhere in your content.
  • "All QRs" screen: every post with a QR, its type and scans, with per-row actions.
  • Permalink sync: change a post's URL and the dynamic QR updates itself.
  • Plus everything your QR Top account does underneath: smart routing, the 404 safeguard, unlimited scans, and the guarantee that no QR ever expires.

Why it's 100% free

The wordpress.org directory requires plugins to be free, and that suits us perfectly: our bet has always been that integrations aren't what you pay for — volume and advanced platform features are. The plugin works with the Free plan forever; if you ever need more QRs, custom domains, or the Business package, the plans are right there.

Install it from wordpress.org — and if it's useful to you, a review in the directory helps more than you'd think.
