Uniqode alternative: the same thing without mandatory annual billing or scan caps
· 3 min read
Uniqode (formerly Beaconstac) is a serious platform: SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications, SSO, enterprise integrations. If you're a multinational with a compliance department, you're probably not reading this. But if you're a small business, an agency, or a professional who just wants dynamic QRs with analytics, their pricing structure has three problems worth knowing before you sign — all documented on their site as of July 2026.
The three problems
1. "Monthly" is paid by the year. The Core plan shows as $49/mo, but billing is annual only: $588 upfront. There is no month-to-month option. If your need is a three-month campaign, you pay for twelve.
2. The scan cap that deactivates your QR. The Essential plan ($9/mo, also annual) includes 50,000 scans per year. Exceeding it doesn't degrade anything gracefully: the QR stops resolving. Your best campaign — the one that goes viral — is the one that kills your printed material. And advance warning, according to their own users, is conspicuously absent.
3. Custom domains as an enterprise privilege. Serving your QRs from qr.yourbrand.com (a simple CNAME record) is reserved for $399/mo tiers, or available as an add-on around $2,000 per year per domain. Technically it costs pennies; the price is pure positioning.
Head to head
| | Uniqode Essential | QR Top Pro | |---|---|---| | Price | $9/mo billed annually | $9/mo, genuinely monthly | | Scans | 50,000/year, then the QR deactivates | Unlimited (guaranteed in writing) | | Dynamic QRs | Per tier | Unlimited | | Custom domain | $399/mo tier or ~$2,000/year | Included | | If you cancel | — | Your QRs keep redirecting (anti-hostage guarantee) | | Analytics | Per tier | Full history, real time | | API | Higher tiers | Included on every plan, free included | | AI assistants | No | MCP server: manage your QRs from Claude or ChatGPT (how it works) |
What Uniqode has that we (still) don't
Honesty sells better than smoke: if you need SSO/SAML, contractual SOC 2 / HIPAA / ISO 27001 certifications, built-in lead capture forms, or GS1 Digital Link support, Uniqode has it and we currently don't. That's exactly the customer their prices are built for. Our thesis is that 90% of the people paying those tiers use none of it — they're paying for the brand and the fear of the scan cap.
The quick math
First year on Uniqode Core: $588 upfront. First year on QR Top Business (domains, team, everything): $348, cancellable any month. And if Pro covers you: $108. The difference isn't in the redirect technology — that's the same — but in the business model behind it: the industry monetizes restrictions; we'd rather free mean free and the cap not exist.
Try it free — 5 permanent dynamic QRs, no card. If you're coming from Uniqode with active QRs, codes already printed with their domain can't be migrated (they own it), but the new ones you'll only print once: with your own domain, control is yours forever.
